ZAHYR LAUREN | THE ARTIST L. HAZ is a West Coast-based artist, writer, and former attorney and human rights investigator. They began drawing in 2015 when suffering from stress paralysis, and have since grown an art practice that includes textiles, metal, wood, murals, and multimedia installation.
The youngest of four siblings, L.Haz comes from a powerful, southern Black matriarchy that migrated from Oklahoma and Mississippi to California with nothing, and made something for generations to come. Growing up in San Jose meant Z was immersed in a multicultural landscape, leading to early recognition of the shared humanity, struggle, and triumphs of people from all walks of life.
Z’s commitment to the Solidarity Index comes from a place of love. It comes from knowing that the personal is political. It comes from a deep feeling that global solidarity is humanity's only way forward.
